Irv Spence's Cartoon Diary: June 16, 1944

A. Arnold "Buddy" Gillespie was a visual effects artist at MGM Studios from 1924 to 1965. In 1943 and '44 he was assigned as an animator on director George Gordon's cartoons. (See prod. #s 103, 106, 108, and 113 at the link.)

"Tree Surgeon," one of George Gordon's MGM cartoons, with Arnold Gillespie's animation.

"Johnny Johnson" might be a reference to this musical.

And we have another appearance of the mysterious "availability certificate." I've yet to find out exactly what this was. Maybe it was something issued by the studio when employees we re-assigned.
